Meet The UW-GK Team

This is your UW-GK Executive Team!

 An incredible team of kind and passionate individuals that uphold the pillars that the GKIHS upholds: Leadership, Academics, and Service.

Ugonna Chigbo

President 

Ugonna provides guidance, leadership, and direction for the Executive Committee. He wants all members and volunteers to recognize the amazing opportunities and events the UW-GK offers campus-wide and in the local community. Together, with the Executive Committee, he will guarantee that your experiences with the UW-GK are exciting and memorable.

When Ugonna is not chairing an executive meeting, he participates in local comedy venues, alongside his radio show on CKUW. 

​

Pooja Kadakia​

Executive Vice President 

 Pooja's role is one that supports the UW-GK President and Executive Committee, while extending her talents through workshops and academic events. She connects a diverse community of students across the UW campus. Pooja's goals are to ensure that all students have the opportunity to work and volunteer at all UW-GK events. Her role as Executive VP is empowering, comforting, inspiring, and motivating.

 

When she is not busy fulfilling her duties, as a 3rd-year Biochemistry student and future physician, she is volunteering in the local community or tutoring in the UW Math & Science Tutoring Center.

Karanveer Dhillon

VP Communications

Karan uses her VP Communications role to inform UW-GK members and the UW community about all our upcoming events. Social media, web design, e-Newsletters, and email communications are Karan's forte. Excelling at account management, administration, and organization, Karan is vital to the operations of UW-GK Chapter. She serves as our creative director for all things Instagram, Facebook, and Linkedin. Watch for her monthly e-Newsletters.

As we search for a VP Marketing, Karan has graciously volunteered to take on these additional duties.

​

Karan recently completed her B.Sc. Honours in Biochemistry and received the Gold Medal for the highest achievement in her area of study. She works as a Pharmacy Assistant and loves traveling, hiking, gardening, and owns her own wellness-focused Instagram page that inspires awareness in different dimensions of health!

Francine Camie​

VP Events

As VP Events, Francine organizes the Chapter's social and community partner volunteer and member activities. Each year, Francine provides a Calendar of Events that offers every UW student and volunteer a diverse range of opportunities to experience, first-hand, the pillars of Golden Key. She offers local connections with Siloam Mission, Canadian Blood Services, Children's Hospital, The Red Cross, Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Winnipeg, The Princeton Review, Let's Talk Science, Jack. org and more!! Francine works closely with her Director of Events, Sarah Demare. 

 

Francine loves traveling and enjoys her business studies when she is not working as a Pharmacy Assistant. Despite Covid-19, Francine strives to give back to her local community every day. 

Ken Ly​

VP Finance

Ken is an accounting student minoring in statistics, with plans to graduate in 2021. After graduating, he plans on pursuing a CPA designation. In his spare time, Ken listens to music, watches YouTube videos, reads or plays video games. His vision as the upcoming VP Finance is to lead the U of W Golden Key Chapter to greater financial success through good management of the Chapter's resources. Ken will ensure that the Chapter’s accounting practices and policies reflect the needs of the chapter so that it can continue providing the best environment for members to succeed in. 

Breanna Laggo 

VP Records

As the Vice President of Records, Breanna will assist fellow executives by collaborating on monthly bulletins, ensuring records are filed as well as updated and recording the minutes of meetings while distributing to fellow officers.

​

She is a third-year Education student at UW, aspiring to be a guidance counsellor. When she is not fulfilling her executive duties or studying, you can find her sipping coffee, spending time with her loved ones, advocating for mental health, or cuddled up with a soft blanket while reading a book.

Cheta Akaluka 

VP Marketing

As the VP Marketing, Cheta will market the UW-GK Chapter on campus, social media, university monitors, and within community partner forums. 

​

Apart from her role on the UW-GK Executive Committee, Cheta is a Communications and Sociology student who is passionate about youth prosperity and community development. She is currently a UWSA Senator, serving on the Academic Standards and Misconduct Committee. Her written work can be found on her blog, Fresh Air, in the campus newspaper, The Uniter, or on social media.

Kiel Adrian Nonato

VP Fundraising

Kiel enrolled into the Society in 2018 inspired by the level of ambition and work ethic demonstrated by its members. He aspires to uphold these standards of excellence.

 

In his new role as Vice President Fundraising, he seeks to be developed as a leader and to contribute to the UW-GK's incredible success.  He is a proud student in the Business & Administration Department intending to become a Chartered Professional in Human Resources and to be fluent in French.

Ferdinand Avikpe

Director of Marketing

Ferdinand will work with the VP of Marketing to coordinate all publicity for the Chapter events/activities and assist with the development of initiatives to network with members thereby promoting GK opportunities and benefits.

 

Apart from his role on the UW-GK Executive Committee, Ferdinand is currently a third-year Biochemistry and Mathematics major, passionate about teaching. Besides that, he enjoys reading literature and indulging himself in good music.

Nicole Van Hove

Ruth Dickinson

Past President

Ruth is also the current UW Alumni Association President, an alumni member of the UW Board of Regents, Treasurer of the UWCSA Classics Club, and co-founder of the UW New Directions in Classics public lecture series. Ruth has worked as a Dental Business Administrator for more than 30 years. For her hard work volunteering she received the UW Dr. Roderick Hunter Award. She earned 5 gold medals at her convocations, numerous academic awards, and achievements. Ruth is a dedicated UW-GK member holding 5 different EC positions for the past 7 years.
